Digital Transformation Era

Time are changing. For businesses to remain relevant and competitive, leaders need to be aware of the culture and marketing trends. Everything is changing from how businesses advertise, to how they deliver products and services, and from where they choose to operate. Plus, the consumer has changed too. As companies transition to the 21st Century, it will require the right technological innovation to make it happen.

Success Requires Adapting

The days of using pen to fill out forms, scanning and printing off documents, and housing important files in massive aluminum cabinets are almost a distant memory. The technological world we now live in gives us the ability to gather information faster, input data quicker, and store billions of files in digital folders. Companies like Amazon have revolutionized how consumers shop. The retail giant has become such a major success, many popular stores have been forced to either close their doors or transition to online shopping. A prime example which validates the reality companies cannot succeed unless they adapt to the technological age.

The Right Application

There are multiple applications and programs available for every industry. Since each company operates differently, business executives need to determine which applications best match their primary objectives. With multiple versions of programs and applications available, it can seem overwhelming for company IT leaders to determine which is right for them. A plethora of similar technology programs exist which handle similar tasks with some variations among competitor’s in terms of add-ons and overall functionality. While having more choices may seems beneficial, those options may not be worth spending the few extra dollars. For example, consider the mobile phone market. Intense competitions exist between carriers. As a result, each carrier tries to entice customers with more features. While certain deals may sound appealing, after a few months you may realize you rarely use the extra features and the extra few dollars you spend each month just goes to waste. The bottom line is important. Therefore, business leaders not only need to know which program is right for them, they also need to the consider the projected savings and financial growth new technology will provide. Each potential program or application needs to be researched carefully in order to get the most bang for their buck.

One Thing At A Time

Once a program is selected, business leaders will be eager to get it incorporated immediately. Which is not surprising. Executives get excited at the idea of incorporating new innovation which can help operations run more efficiently while simultaneously saving money and increasing profits. Yet, as any IT professional knows, incorporating new technology is a process. Therefore, it is important everyone involved focus on one element at a time, not several. Trying to incorporate multiple elements will cause setbacks and create crucial mistakes. Issues which will only frustrate employees at all levels. When a company decides to incorporate different software over time, it is important to ensure the applications work with each other. Not all software programs sync with each other. Without sufficient research this discovery, during the implementation process, will likely be costly. Plus, when tensions run high within a company, employees are quick to jump ship while others may be let go. Another issue which hampers progress.

Provide Reasonable Time For Implementation

Once an application is decided upon, the next step is implementation. There are many steps to incorporating a new application. There’s the installation process, testing applications, securing sensitive data, and finally training employees. Each phase of the implementation process may experience some glitches and other minor setbacks. Those in charge of implementation must create a reasonable timeframe for each phase of the project. Rushing the implementation process, as mentioned, will lead to many oversights and frustration for the end-user. The end-user will be sent into unknown territory without a guide, forced to deal with unfamiliar scenarios with no knowledge or resources how to resolve them. Problems which will not only impact the user’s ability to do their job, but also damages a company’s credibility and drive customers away.

Remember The End User

During initial research and implementation phases, it’s vital you know exactly who the end user is and their specific needs. The end-user wants convenience and a user-friendly experience. The more user-friendly a program is, the less amount of training needs to take place. Those in charge of the implementation process must be in constant communication with the end user to ensure, working along side of them, to ensure all needs are met.

Never Stop Learning

Smart leaders know, the right technology leads to better operational efficiency and overall financial growth. Even after a new program is integrated, as IT specialists are aware, there will be basic upkeep and occasional upgrades. Software programs and applications constantly evolve. A reality which means new technology will constantly need to be monitored and upgraded. Also, not a bad idea to see what competitors are using to help their overall operations perform smoothly. Unless the world goes dark from a massive electronic outage, technology will be an important component which will either make or break a company’s performance and ability to be competitive.
